The McIntosh County Shouters visit schools around the country

For over 30 years, this group has visited schools around the country in an ongoing effort to keep the culture alive. If you would like the group to come to your school, please contact the group. In the past few years, many arts and humanities programs have been cut from the academic curriculum. Your support to help this group continue to travel to schools is greatly appreciated. The McIntosh County Shouters have performed for many special events over the years, including venues as large as the Library of Congress and the John F. Kennedy Center in December 2010. In this video, they performed on a plantation that once had slaves. In the background are slave cabins made of tabby. In November 2011, it was reported that slave remains were found on this land.

The McIntosh County Shouters also perform for festivals, conferences, conventions, tour groups, and anyone interested in learning about coastal Georgia history. Look for them at the Savannah Music Festival in March 2011.

Throughout the year, the McIntosh County Shouters are requested to perform for various outreach programs. These include church events, festivals, charities, nursing homes. The photo below is from a program they did at a nursing home. So, while the group manages to perform for large audiences, it still doesn't forget the smaller ones. During this particular event, the nursing home director told us that one lady had not spoken for two years yet during their performance, the woman couldn't stop talking. The director was very surprised. Something in the program must have triggered memories for her.
